Sybil, aka Spud, wants to be a drummer. She lives alone with her father, who refuses to discuss Sybil’s dead mother. Her reluctant friendship with an old woman helps both of them address their loneliness and deal with the future.
PETA MURRAY is a writer-performer, librettist and dramaturg turned late blooming paracademic. Best known for her play Wallflowering, she has written multiple works for performance, including the AWGIE-winners The Keys to the Animal Room, Spitting Chips, and Salt, winner of the Victorian Premier’s Award for Drama. Other projects include Things That Fall Over: An Anti-Musical of a Novel inside a Reading of a Play, with Footnotes and Oratorio-as-Coda which premiered at Footscray Community Arts Centre and a triptych of works on themes of ageing and the creative life course, Ware with A Translucent Body. A work of live art, vigil/wake, made in collaboration with Jane Murphy, Rachel Burke and Thembi Soddell, has had presentations in conference settings and at Melbourne’s ArtsHouse.
