VIRGINIA GAY is an actor, writer and director. She has written two plays, Cyrano, and The Boomkak Panto (Belvoir St Theatre), and is working on her third, Mama Does Derby (Windmill). In 2024, she won a Fringe First award for Most Outstanding New Writing at the Edinburgh Fringe for her adaptation of Cyrano, and was named one of the Fringe Five – Edinburgh’s Five Breakout Theatre Makers - by The Stage. The production went on to a five-star season at The Park Theatre, London. She won a Sydney Theatre Award for Best Actress in Calamity Jane, received a Logie nomination for Most Outstanding Actress in After The Verdict, and played an absolute nightmare human in season two of Colin From Accounts. She starred in the film Judy & Punch which premiered at Sundance, in Savage River for Aquarius Films, Safe Home for SBS, and is thrilled to be the 2024/25 Artistic Director of Adelaide Cabaret Festival. She spent four years pretending to be a nurse on All Saints, and five years pretending to know a lot about high finance on Winners & Losers. That last one, particularly, was a stretch.
